Five Things Tyler Ennis Brings to the Suns

Arizona Sports News online

With their second pick of the first-round (18th overall) the Phoenix Suns selected Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis. Here are five things Ennis brings to the Valley of the Sun.

Floor Leadership- The 6’2, 180-pound Canadian who prepped at St. Benedict in New Jersey is a pure point guard with the vision and creativity to get his teammates the ball in position to score. He also takes care of the ball registering a 3.60 assist-to-turnover ratio, good for sixth-best in the country. He committed no more than two turnovers in any game last season.

Can Score on the Floor- When Ennis isn’t getting others involved, he’s takes things into his own hands offensively. In his one and only year at ‘Cuse he averaged nearly 13 points a game (second on the team). He’s a good outside shooter who scored in double figures 26 of his 34 collegiate games.

Excellent in Transition- He has to be playing in Phoenix, right? As evidenced last year Jeff Hornacek wants to push the pace which plays right into one of Ennis’ greatest strengths. His vision on the break and ability to keep the floor spaced will create good looks for Phoenix’s spot up shooters.

Maturity- Hard to believe only being 19 but many scouts and executives agree he plays much older. This will help in the transition from the college schedule to the 82-game grind in the NBA. Ennis is also coachable and wants to improve his game at both ends of the floor.

Not Afraid to Take the Big Shot- This.
