Former Firebird, Boise State Bronco Roh Looking To Build Off Freshman Campaign

Arizona Sports News online

Jake Roh wasted no time making an impact on the football field at the collegiate level.

The Boise State tight end was an All-Mountain West honorable mention selection in his redshirt freshman season.  This year, he’s hoping to expand his role and continue to be a big target for the Broncos.

“I think this year was really big with getting comfortable out there on the field so now it’s just I’m more comfortable and I can play more as a true player,” Roh said.

Roh has spent a portion of his offseason in the Valley with Boise State quarterback and fellow Arizona-native Ryan Finley. They have been working with former Arizona State quarterback and Coronado quarterbacks coach Rudy Carpenter and former NFL coach Rod Dowhower in hopes to repeat as Fiesta Bowl champions.

The Chaparral product made his mark as a linebacker and tight end for the Firebirds. He says a significant portion of his success is credited to what he learned at the high school level.

“I think there I really learned how to win: be a winner, work hard, and (see) what working hard brings.”

Jake can also look to his older brother, Craig, for guidance. Craig was the 2008-09 Gatorade Player of the Year at Chaparral, and played four years at the University of Michigan. He spent time with the Carolina Panthers and is currently with the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League. Jake says this simple advice from his older brother continues to drive his success at the college level.

“Just work hard and do your business the right way and good things will come of it.”

With 35 receptions, 408 receiving yards and two touchdowns as a redshirt freshman, Roh is continuing to do his business in the right way.
