Rickie Fowler had a two-stroke lead at WM Open with two holes remaining on Sunday. He couldn’t close out the competition. A four hole playoff between Fowler and Hideki Matsuyama would finish on the 10th hole at TPC Scottsdale with the 23-year-old Matsuyama getting the victory.
Fowler looked to be in control in regulation after walking out of the 16th hole with a two-stroke lead. But on 17, his tee shot skipped the green and went into the water, which opened the door for Matsuyama. Fowler would lose the playoff on the 17th hole after he yanked his 5-wood into the water.
