Goldschmidt Dominant In Crazy Series Win vs Cubs

It wasn’t easy, but the Arizona Diamondbacks went into Wrigley Field and won the series against a red-hot Chicago Cubs.

Here are a few takeaways from the series:

Mixed Bag For Starters

The Arizona Diamonbacks are currently second in starter ERA at a 3.55 trailing only the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Diamondbacks received one of Zack Goldey’s best starts with a six-inning performance where he gave up three hits and struck out five. Pair that with hitless performances from Andrew Chafin, Archie Bradley and Fernando Rodney, and the Diamondbacks shut down the Cubbies in Game 2 of the series.

That was not the case with the other two starters with Patrick Corbin and Zack Greinke. Greinke battled rain delays and gave up six runs in six innings. Corbin only got through three innings and giving up seven earned runs. He threw 70 pitches. That was compounded with T.J. McFarland’s performance where he gave up six runs in just over two innings.

HIS NAME IS PAUL GOLDSCHMIDT

Paul Goldschmidt is having one of the best years of his decorated career, and that was further solidified with his performance in the final game of this series. With multiple rain delays, Goldschmidt hit three home runs, scored four runs and six RBIs, including the go-ahead home run off Wade Davis in the ninth inning to take the series.

Rosales Thrown In The Fire

The newly-acquired Adam Rosales came in with a reliable glove, but he also helped out with his bat. In two games, he hit 3/10, scored a run and knocked in two runs as well. He was a needed addition at shortstop with Chris Owings and Nick Ahmed both injured and Ketel Marte going on the bereavement list after his mother’s death.

Speaking of Marte, he has been activated on Friday to continue playing with the Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks continue their road trip heading to San Francisco to take on the Giants in a three-game series.
