After surveying the landscape of what has happened at Hamilton football over the last few weeks perhaps it’s time to pick up the phone and call John Wrenn.
Wrenn was named Arizona High School Coach of the Year three times while at Hamilton . (1999, 2003 and 2004). During his eight-year tenure at Hamilton, Wrenn’s teams posted a 91-11 won-loss record, winning two state championships.
What happened off the field with the hazing scandal shouldn’t impact the players that are getting ready for the 2017 season.
I have always admired John. He’s a good man who would be a good sounding board on what to do moving the program forward.
He joined the staff of former ASU Head Coach Dirk Koetter in 2006 as running backs and special teams coach. He served as Director of Football Operations and High School Relations for eight seasons under Head Coaches Dennis Erickson and Todd Graham, retiring from the position in 2014. Wrenn still serves as a consultant for Coach Graham’s operations staff. He would have to give this up if he went back to assist the Huskies.
I sent John a text the other day, he was busy babysitting the grandkids. Perhaps coaching is out of system, but maybe it’s not.
IF Belles is not back as coach, having a presence like Wrenn wouldn’t be the worst thing for the program. Dick Baniszewski is in place to oversee Husky football right now. Wrenn would be a good “chief of staff.”
Lots of chapters left in this story from my view…
