Hamilton Golf Star O’Sullivan to Forgo USC Scholarship, Attend Q-School

Arizona Sports News online

As the final weeks of her high school years near a close, one of the nation’s top amateurs and Hamilton High School golf star Hannah O’Sullivan has made a big decision in regards to her future as she will no longer be attending USC to play collegiate golf next year.

“Hannah will not be attending college at University of Southern California (USC) or any other university during the 2016/2017 school year,” said Hannah’s father Greg O’Sullivan. “Education remains a high priority for Hannah, and she wants to get her college degree at some stage in the future, which she will determine a plan for down the road.”

“We have had respectful conversations with USC about this, and Hannah wants to thank Coach Andrea Gaston, Coach Justin Silverstein and the USC Athletics Department for all their support, encouragement, and kindness over the past few years,” he added. “She is most impressed by Coach Gaston and Coach Silverstein as winning coaches and as wonderful people.”

Hannah’s Father added that once making the decision, they wanted to inform USC as quickly as possible so that they her scholarship could be made available to another deserving recruit. For now, the 17-year-old will instead pursue an LPGA card at Q-School later this year as an amateur.

“She is going to consider her options and future direction with regard to growing in golf and related to that, other fundamental aspects of life,” Greg O’Sullivan stated.

O’Sullivan has had quite the amateur career already having played in the 2012 U.S. Open at the age of 14, she made history last February at the Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Club winning the event as a tournament exemption and in June, she will be part of Team USA at the Curtis Cup in Ireland.

Hannah’s father Greg said she currently has no timeline to ‘turn professional’ and is in no rush to do so. She will be learning and evaluating various options as we move forward.
