Just because Hamilton and Chandler have lost a couple of games this season, doesn’t mean that Fridays “Battle for Arizona Ave.” rivalry game isn’t just as important as years past. I had the pleasure of being on stage with both head coaches earlier this week for the annual Kickoff Luncheon in Downtown Chandler. Steve Belles and Shaun Aguano have won a lot of football games through the years and the two have the ability to take a team to the big schools title game(though Mtn. Pointe would say “no way”). The game is obviously important for both schools, but I think there is probably more urgency over on the Hamilton sidelines to come away with a W. The Huskies lost to Perry for the first time in school history last Friday night. A loss to the Wolves would send Hamilton into the postseason with two straight defeats and probably some sagging shoulders. I respect both coaches and their programs. To me, there is not a greater rivalry in the State than this one. We don’t see St. Marys v Brophy or Saguaro v Chap anymore. I’m sure those of you who are going to Liberty v Centennial game on Friday night would disagree with me, but these are two of the high schools in my backyard.
