Hamilton’s Tyler Shough Taking First Team Reps At Oregon

Arizona Sports News online

Former Hamilton quarterback Tyler Shough is beginning Oregon fall camp as the starting quarterback with the Ducks, looking to replace Justin Herbert and lead the defending Pac-12 and Rose Bowl champs.

He’ll still have to win the job and outperform senior Boston College transfer Anthony Brown and freshmen quarterbacks Cale Millen, Jay Butterfield, and Robby Ashford. But if the season started today, Shough would be the guy. He’s impressed Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal in Eugene.

“Tyler Shough has done a great job, he really has. When he’s had his opportunities in there in practice and spring ball, he got off to a great start,” Cristobal said. “He has a natural field presence, he has a commanding presence out there…We’ll enter day one with Tyler taking the first reps and Anthony taking the twos, but we are going to make it a competition.”

As a Husky, Shough threw for 5,150 yards over two seasons with 57 touchdowns for a quarterback rating of 121.9. Now he’ll look to take his talents from high school and carry them to the next level in Eugene.

Shough is yet another Arizona quarterback competing on the highest stage of power-five college football, as Perry’s Brock Purdy and Pinnacle’s Spencer Rattler went toe-to-toe last Saturday night, and Casteel’s Gunner Cruz will also be competing for the starting quarterback job in the Palouse at Washington State.

Mesquite High School’s Ty Thompson is also already committed to Oregon out of the 2021 class, as he went in-depth about his decision with Sports360AZ’s Jordan Hamm in March. The quarterback talent in Arizona continues to shine and be put on notice.
