With Week Zero upon Arizona, the AIA made decisions on various transfer hardship waivers for some of the top high school football players in the state. The waiver process occurs when a transfer is made to eliminate the player having to sit out five games.
azcentral’s Richard Obert reported Centennial running back Zidane Thomas’ waiver was approved. Thomas, who rushed for nearly 1,900 yards in 2017 for the Coyotes, moved to Florida to be with his mother, but returned to Centennial within a number of days.
Since he withdrew from Centennial, he needed to go through the waiver process.
Obert also reported Chaparral quarterback Jack Miller was denied of his hardship waiver. The sophomore, who was named 247sports’ top quarterback in 2020, transferred to Chaparral from Scottsdale Christian Academy.
A friend of the Miller family died after getting hit by a car outside of the stadium during one of SCA’s games in 2016. Sports360AZ reported on this tragedy last fall.
Miller’s father, Jack sr., told Obert they plan to appeal the decision. If their appeal was not approved, Miller will have to sit out five weeks.
