Any commitment warrants celebration, but Vanterpool’s is one that may have seemed impossible just a few years ago. The newly-committed tackle missed most of his sophomore season due to a concussion. Along with that and a few other injuries, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound Vanterpool decided to step away from football and focus on basketball during his junior year.
Vanterpool returned for his senior season with interest from various college programs, but they wanted to see tape before offering a scholarship. He was confident he could deliver, and he did.
With programs like Montana, U.C.-Davis, UNLV, New Mexico State, Vanterpool decided on the Warriors after visiting the campus last weekend. He is hoping to a career in occupational therapy.
It’s been a crazy two years for the Central tackle, but he is island-bound with a new hunger and tenacity when he takes the field.
