Healthy Kirk Ramping Up Production

Arizona Sports News online

Kliff Kingsbury said it shortly after he was hired as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.

The then first-year head coach knew all about former Saguaro High and Texas A&M star wide receiver/punt returner Christian Kirk.

Early on he saw the talent, versatility, work ethic and commitment to be great.

So far this season, his third, Kirk’s had a knack for finding the end zone. His six touchdowns through the first eight games equal his total from his first two seasons in the league combined. After recording just one catch in the season opener against San Francisco, Kirk has tallied 22 for 400 yards (18.18 yards per reception) in the last six games.

In Sunday’s 34-31 loss to Miami he had five receptions for a season-high 123 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown catch early in the second quarter.

“I felt like we were pretty successful on offense [Sunday],” Kirk said before crediting Miami’s defense. “They’re talented and they’re a good football team and they made more plays than us.”

For now, it’s time to move past the Dolphins’ loss and focus on the streaking 7-2 Bills next week in Glendale.

“We all know how talented and how good we can be,” Kirk explained. “We’ve got to check ourselves again, similar to [the loss to] Carolina. We went back and checked ourselves and played really good football the next three games.”

Kickoff next weekend is 2:05 at State Farm Stadium.
