Kade Warner followed his father’s advice and his patience paid off Thursday when the ultra-productive Desert Mountain wide receiver announced his intentions to play football at the University of Nebraska.
Warner, who had only one scholarship offer from the University of San Diego, will be a preferred walk-on for head coach Mike Riley and the Huskers in Lincoln. He set an Arizona state record for receptions and also had PWO offers from Arizona State, UCLA and Iowa.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder caught 83 passes for 1062 and 14 touchdowns last fall for the Wolves. A three-year varsity performer, Warner tallied 241 catches for just under 3,000 yards and 38 total touchdowns. He also played some defense and even a little H-back during his prep career in north Scottsdale.
Warner visited Nebraska, who fell one wide receiver short of filling their 2017 class, a couple of weeks ago before deciding the Big Ten school would be the best fit moving forward. Former Desert Mountain coach Blair Tushaus is now a graduate assistant with the Huskers.
Recently selected Class of 2017 Pro Football Hall of Fame father Kurt Warner served as Desert Mountain’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons.
