It was a big bounce back win for the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday as they knocked off the Colorado Buffalos 56-31 on Homecoming weekend. But the biggest story was the performance of sophomore running back Ka’Deem Carey.
The Tucson native had the biggest day of the season for a running back in the FBS and the best ever by a Wildcat tallying 400 all-purpose yards (366 rushing) and five touchdowns. The statistical explosion led Carey to be named the National player of the week by the College Performance Awards.
“He runs as hungry and as angry as any running back in the country,” said Arizona head coach Rich Rodriguez after the win Saturday. “He is getting more accustomed to the offense and where the cuts are going to be against certain fronts.”
The 366 rushing yards is both an Arizona and a PAC-12 record. The previous Arizona mark was 288 yards set by Trung Candidate in 1998 and the PAC-12 mark was 357 set by Reuben Mayes back in 1984.
“Ka’Deem was Ka’Deem again,” Rodriguez mentioned.
The Wildcats are now bowl eligible getting their sixth win of the season and will look to make it seven on the road against Utah next week.
