Second seeded Raymond Kellis – behind 24 points from guard Desmond Ross – defeated 18th seeded Queen Creek 72-53 on Saturday night, to advance to the semi-finals of the Division II Boys Championship.
Center Kenny Martin had 21 points, and forward Bikonzi Moise chipped in with 12 points in the win.
Junior forward Zach Auguste led the Bulldogs with 21 points in a losing effort.
It was a tight game after the first quarter, as Kellis led by only four, 20-16.
But the second quarter is where Queen Creek collapsed.
The Bulldogs scored just six points, and the worst of that is the fact that one player got those six points – guard Carter Wilson.
Kellis was up 55-31 going into the fourth quarter, and cruised from there.
To Queen Creek’s defense, they never gave up and played hard until the final buzzer sounded.
The Cougars got their 25th win of the season, and will take on the No. 7 seed, Paradise Valley, on Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena.
The game starts at 6 p.m.
