The strange Kerry Taylor-Arcadia High School saga took, what appears to be, the final turn Tuesday when the Titans’ head coach resigned after two years at the school.
“I felt that it was the best decision for my family and I that I step down,” Taylor said to Sports360AZ.com. “It was very difficult to run a championship-caliber program when you’re not given the opportunity to have any coaches on campus, along with other factors.”According to sources close to the situation, Taylor addressed the team of his decision in person at 2:00 on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old made waves statewide this summer when he was rehired after the Arcadia community rallied behind the coach who helped turn around the program in just a single season. He was initially told by administration his contract wouldn’t be renewed for the 2019 season after the school self-reported recruiting and practice violations to the AIA. The decision was reversed and Taylor was rehired to the same position.
He and his wife Alana are expecting their first child, a boy, in February.
Arcadia finished 6-4 each of the past two seasons under Taylor who took over a winless program in 2018 when he was named head coach.
“I was happy to be able to return this season and send the seniors off the right way,” the former ASU star and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver said.
