Three Dot Thoughts…
There is a distinct Phoenix angle in the middle of “The Donald Disaster” in LA Clipper land. You have former Suns coach Alvin Gentry as an assistant to Doc Rivers and Jared Dudley is one of the bench contributors for the Clippers. I have to imagine both men are beyond disgusted with the comments of Owner Donald Sterling.
Favorite Sun Kevin Johnson has found his way into the middle of this story. The current Sacramento mayor is acting in the role of union advisor to the players on the Sterling comments. Earlier today he said that “we believe this is a defining moment for the League.”
KJ stepped forward on the topic of a boycott of Tuesdays playoff game five on Tuesday in LA. “Let’s see what’s decided over the next couple of days. Let’s see if our issues are being addressed.”
So, if the penalty against Sterling isn’t viewed as severe enough by KJ, it will be very interesting to see if he advises the players to take a stronger stance than just turning their warmups inside out and wearing black socks and armbands as they did in Game 4.
I am not surprised that KJ has taken on this role. Anyone who covered him during his tenure in a Suns uniform knew that he had much more than basketball in his blood…
Friday night at the AZUnitedSC soccer match I had the chance to visit with Tim Holt, President of the United Soccer League. He sounded optimistic about the possibilities of what could happen longterm for Phoenix in the soccer community. It’s encouraging to have the head of the league come check things out just three weeks in. Holt was very upbeat and positive about the job that Owner Kyle Eng has done in such a short period of time(less than two months) in putting all facets of a franchise in place. With the World Cup coming in June, the interest in soccer will be at it’s pinnacle, I would hope to see some of that rub off on the soccer enthusiasts state wide…

Earlier this month we did the show in Tucson, I broke bread with some of the Arizona Wildcat football staff in their sparkling football facility. They felt good about their hard work of recruiting the Phoenix area, but didn’t know what the payoff would be. I think the landing of Chaparrals Keenan Walker answers that question. Walker is one of the nations top recruits in the class of 2015. He is third player from the Valley to commit to Arizona, joining Campo Verde tackle Finton Connolly and Desert Ridge running back Taren Morrison. Walker said “no” to Ohio State and Arizona State to accept the offer from the Wildcats…
