After talking to Kyle Allen it’s easy to see he’s a confident young man.
The senior from Scottsdale Desert Mountain High School, rated by many as the 2014 number one rated quarterback in the country pledged his college commitment Monday afternoon to play for Texas A&M in the Southeastern Conference.
This comes less than a week after he officially narrowed his final five list to A&M, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Ohio State and UCLA.
“I was just ready,” Allen told Pros2Preps.com regarding his decision Monday afternoon from his north Scottsdale home. “I just said throughout the entire process I was going to commit when I was ready. I woke up this morning…I knew it. I was confident about it and I called them and I committed.”
The 6’3, 195-pounder said the Aggies put it all together for him citing the football and overall atmosphere at soon-to-be renovated Kyle Field and in College Station. Allen took his official visit and was able to watch the spring game which drew over 45,000 fans.
He is also excited to play for head coach Kevin Sumlin who helped Case Keenum post huge numbers at the University of Houston just one year before Johnny Manziel won the Heisman Trophy as an unheralded redshirt freshman.
“They’ve had a really long list of quarterbacks that they’ve [been] successful with,” Allen explained. “It means a lot to be thrown into that system. Hopefully I can be as successful as them.”
He described his verbal commitment as “relieving” and said he is looking forward to focusing on his senior season at Desert Mountain with the announcement now behind him. He contacted each of the other four finalists Monday morning after reaching his decision. Notre Dame was the only school Allen didn’t make an official visit to over the spring.
He threw for 3,119 yards with 36 touchdowns and just seven interceptions last season as a junior.
