Recap

Verrado got on the scoreboard quickly. Viper LB Zach Jernigan intercepted Austin Svoboda on the second play of the game and took it to the house for the early 7-0 lead.

After missing a field goal in the 1st quarter, Liberty got on the board in the second on a Dylen Bieber field goal. 7-3.

The Liberty defense forced a punt and it didn’t take long before the Lions grabbed their first lead of the game. Svoboda hit Jace Johnson on a deep ball to get to the 1 yard line. LB Ryan Puska then lined up at QB and plunged in for a score on the next play. 10-7 Liberty.

It took Verrado all of one play to take the lead back. RB JaTai Jenkins broke loose for a 72 yard TD on the first play from scrimmage. 14-10.

Liberty added one more score before halftime on a Svoboda to Bieber TD pass from 50 yards out. 17-14 Liberty at the half.

Liberty had a huge third quarter, exploding for 20 points on offense as the defense forced three punts in the quarter.

Bieber scored from 35 yards out to give the Lions a 23-14 lead. Puskas added a second score from the wildcat before big RB Jace Accurso threw a TD pass to Jaydan Newman.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Bottomline

This was a close game through the first half. Give credit to Liberty’s defense, they clamped down in the second half. They forced three straight punts, a turnover and a turnover on downs in the second half.
