‘Lopes add former Sun Devil Demetrius Walker to roster

Arizona Sports News online

Dan Majerle continues to add onto his basketball roster at Grand Canyon University, this time adding 6’2” guard Demetrius Walker, formerly of the University of New Mexico.

Walker – a native of Fontana, Calif. – spent the last three years with the Lobos. He’s got ties to the Valley, having played a season at Arizona State and at St. Mary’s High School in Phoenix, Ariz.

“We are excited to have a player of Demetrius’ ability that has played at both New Mexico and Arizona State,” Majerle said. “It is good to have him here at GCU, as he brings with him a lot of experience and can score the basketball. He will be big for our team next season having a guy that we can go to.”

In his junior season with the Lobos, Walker averaged five points and almost 16 minutes per game, compared to 7.4 points and almost 17 minutes per game in his sophomore season.

Walker played in 23 games for the Sun Devils in his freshman season. He led the team in scoring on three occasions.

With the Knights, Walker led them to the Arizona 5A State title. He had 27 points against Gilbert Highland.

Walker graduated from New Mexico this past May, and has one year of eligibility remaining. He’ll pursue his graduate degree while at Grand Canyon.
