Arizona Diamondbacks starter Luke Weaver was settled in to his start on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants when he left his start suddenly.
The team said he felt forearm tightness in his right arm, which can be a symptom of an injury to the ulner collateral ligament in the elbow. If serious enough, it can require Tommy John surgery, something fellow Diamondback starter Taijuan Walker went through at the start of the 2018 season.
Now, the team has not said the severity of the injury or if that tightness is related to any sort of injury, but a potential absence from the rotation would be another blow to the club who currently is missing David Peralta, Steven Souza Jr., Jake Lamb and Wilmer Flores to injury.
Weaver was a key part of the return package the St. Louis Cardinals sent over in exchange for Paul Goldschmidt this offseason. The starter has been impressive in his first season with the club, posts a 3.14 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and striking out 62 batters in 57.1 innings entering Sunday.
