Tucson Salpointe Catholic (Ariz.) small forward and 2019 prospect Majok Deng received an offer from Stanford this weekend while on a visit.
Stanford has always been a program of interest for the 6-foot-5 and four-star recruit because of their strong academics. He hopes to “bring knowledge” to Sudan when he gets his college degree.
“It’s special because you know how high of an education school they are,” Deng said. “For me to be to be recognized as one of those student-athletes and be wanted to go to Stanford means a lot.”

Majok Deng was one of the leaders of the Salpointe Catholic team that made it to the 4A state championship game. He holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, GCU, New Mexico, Utah, Vanderbilt, Portland and USF in addition to the Cardinal.
Stanford has been keeping tabs on Deng for a while now, even driving to Nogales, an hour and a half south of Tucson, to watch Majok play when the Cardinal were in town to play Arizona on February 8th.
“That was huge for them to drive to watch me play it was meaningful, Deng said. “They have been very supportive of me. They want the best for me, and they really want me in their program…That’s where everything kind of started to come together.”
Deng is coming off a sophomore season where he averaged 15.8 points and 8.5 rebounds and two blocks per game and is focused on his improving his game before focusing on his recruitment.
“The door is still open right now,” Deng said. “I barely finished my sophomore year. I’m not thinking about that yet. I have to get better for me to really think about that.”
