Final: Mt. View 31 Valley Vista 7
Recap
Mountain View jumped out to an early 14-0 lead over Valley Vista, scoring on their first drive of the 2017 season and converting a turnover into points.
The Toros marched down the field, seemingly 8 yards a pop, to start the game and punched the ball in on a Brandon Nunez TD run. Nunez hooked up with star junior WR Jacobby Dinwiddie multiple times on the drive.
LB Jeremiah Hollen scooped up a Valley Vista fumble late in the first quarter and rumbled in for TD. 14-0 Toros after 1.
Valley Vista got a turnover of their own that they turned into points and kept the game respectable. After exchanging multiple punts, Mt. View fumbled a punt return which the Monsoon recovered in scoring range. They got inside the 10 yard line with help from a pass interference call and RB Ray Baquero scored from a few yards out, only to see it called back for holding. The Monsoon managed to punch the ball in a few plays later with Baquero to narrow the score to 14-7.
This was the score at halftime and the only score Valley Vista would get.
Mountain View’s defense, who was led by Tate Allen all night, forced a 3-and-out to start the 2nd half and the offense drove the field and added to their lead on a 20 yard Nunez TD run. 21-7.
Another Monsoon 3-and-out and another Mt. View TD put this game away. Devin Waite scampered 42 yards on a reverse and Hollen got his second TD of the night, this time on a short run. 28-7 Mt. View after 3 quarters.
Toro kicker Kevin Ryan added a 38 yard FG in the 4th to give us a 31-7 final in favor of Mt. View.
Bottomline
Mountain View played a very sound football game in all three phases. They run the ball well, have one of the state’s top WRs in Dinwiddie and have an up and coming QB in Nunez. HC Mike Fell has done in a good job in his short time at the school.
