Two teams gave it their all and would not give up Tuesday night as the 6th seeded Mesquite Wildcats and the 11th seeded Red Mountain Mountain Lions met in post-season play.
It was the home team, Mesquite, that would prevail on a walk off single from senior Casey Howard in the bottom of the 7th inning.
The Mountain Lions wanted it to be known that they were going to compete early. Thy raced out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
But slowly and surly, the mesquite Wildcats clawed their way back getting a run in the 5th and three runs in the 6th. Despite Red Mountain regaining the lead in the top half of the seventh on a John Havrid opposite field RBI double, Mesquite responded with two runs in the bottom half to win it.
“We just kept going, kept fighting,” said Casey Howard who was the hero of the night. “I knew we could come back and win, so we did.”
Mesquite is moving on and will face Sandra Day O’Connor on Thursday at 6:30.
