Mike Bercovici will see Arizona State football much differently when the Sun Devils take on Kent State in their season opener Thursday night.
The former starting quarterback was hired this spring as a graduate assistant on Herm Edwards’ staff and so far, so good for “Coach Berco.”
“Still getting used to being called, ‘coach,'” Bercovici said with a smile during a recent Skype interview with Sports360AZ.com’s Jordan Hamm. “It’s been great. I think the biggest thing is, being four or five years removed from school, the guys have been extremely respectful to me turning into a coaching role.”Bercovici explained how he believes coaching is a 50/50 split between motivating and teaching and admits the long days and, sometimes even longer nights, have been an adjustment with his new coaching responsibilities.
“As a player you get beat up and you take the bumps and bruises,” he said. “Here, you’re here at five in the morning and sometimes we don’t leave until 11 or 12 at night so you just have to get your body in shape to having full work days. It’s been a grind but I’ve enjoyed every second of it.”

Something tells me Bercovici will be just fine making his way up the coaching ranks if that’s the avenue he chooses to pursue.
