Anyone that keeps up with eight-man football in Arizona knows that the Mogollon Mustangs are a perennial powerhouse.
The Division VI Section I Mustangs were 7-3 last year under coach Tim Slade’s direction after going 10-1 in his first season as head coach.
When asked what will be the Mustangs’ strength Slade’s response seemed fitting.

“The running game has always been a focus for us at Mogollon,” he said. “We have two backs with Varsity experience returning.”
Mogollon’s focus this year is diverse.
“Team defense, tackling and improving in the passing game are all areas of focus,” Coach Slade told Pros2Preps.
Coach Slade has experienced lettermen to rely on with four offensive starters and four defensive starters returning.
“We take each game one at a time,” coach said.
But the obvious game that eight-man football fans will circle on their calendars is September 14 when the Mustangs host the defending state champion Joseph City Wildcats. That head to head record is as close to being at .500 all time as possible.
Coach Slade is in his 3rd year as head coach compiling a stellar 17-4 record. Mogollon kicks off the season at home against Gila Bend Friday, August 24.
