Coming off of a stellar freshman season in Flagstaff, NAU point guard DeWayne Russell announced that he will be leaving the program.
“I would like to thank DeWayne for all of his contributions to our university and basketball program during his time here and hope for his continued success on the floor and in the classroom,” NAU head basketball coach Jack Murphy stated on Wednesday.
The Peoria high school graduate finished second on the team in scoring during the 2012-13 season with an average of 14.1 points per game as a freshman. He started 26-of-32 games and shot 39.8 percent from the field.
“It was an amazing experience,” Russell told Sports360AZ.com about his freshman season prior to the announcement of his transfer. “I had some highs and I had some lows but overall I learned a lot and I am grateful that I got that opportunity to come in and play for coach Murphy.”
Russell has not yet announced where he will be transferring.
