Thinking about Ralph Sampson and New Knees…

7″4 Ralph Sampson was trying to move around on the Phoenix Suns practice court. Decked out in cut-off sweats, the former dominant big man of the Houston Rockets, was hoping to convince then-Suns owner Jerry Colangelo that he could still play. It was a hard watch. Colangelo leaned over to me and asked what I thought, “Jerry he can’t move”, was my reply. He shot right back, “Well, who are you to talk, you can’t move either”. He was right.   We had a good chuckle.  That happened in the 1994.

I tore my left ACL for the first time in the early 90’s on the basketball court. Both knees have been cut on multiple times. I think I’ve contributed to a wing or two being built at the same physical therapy center. So I’m finally doing something about it, and It’s not going to be easy. Next month I’m going in for double-knee replacement. Get both done at the same time and get back to enjoying life. I’m looking forward to the challenge…

My least favorite part of the sports calendar is here. For the next six weeks the workforce of the NFL is being put in harm’s way for nothing more than greed. Not one good reason can be made  for the length of  preseason football. Not one. Fans putting down their hard-earned money to watch meaningless games that feature primarily backups and guys who are sure to get cut.  September 8th can’t get here soon enough…

Longtime Valley sportscaster Bruce Cooper dropped in on the show this past week and with conviction said the Cardinals will win between 10-12 games this season. Welcome to “Coop-Island”…

Mike Hazen should dump the Diamondbacks roster in the coming days. The GM has done a good job of assembling a competitive team the last couple of seasons. The minor league pipeline has been restocked through stockpiling draft picks. Trading Greinke, Ray, Dyson, Jones, Holland, and others would be smart. No reason to be upset with the franchise…

When I saw the headline  “Dragan Bender to Milwaukee”  It made me puke on my shoes. The Suns 2016 draft class is already gone and will surely go down as one of the worst in the history of the franchise. Wise-guys in Vegas listed the Suns at 29 wins for the coming season. I took the over…

Kent State is the opening game for Arizona State next month. Once upon a time the Golden Flashes(great nickname) had a quarterback named Julian Edelman. You might have heard of him…

Big recruiting news coming this week out of Salpointe Catholic. Two of the top players in the 2020 class are going to make their college choices. Our recruiting analyst Jordan Hamm will be having a busy week with the Bijan Robinson and Bruno Fina commitments. Both are leaving Arizona. Robinson is considered the top uncommitted back in the western half of the country…
