*The biggest news this week was supposed to by Scottsdale Saguaro’s D.J. Foster making his announcement. For the second week in a row it was pushed back. He originally was going to announce on Nov. 3rd on national recruiting guru Tom Lemming’s television show but a scheduling conflict with his head coach got in the way. It was then rescheduled to the 10th but Saguaro won their first round playoff game against Sunrise Mountain and because of Veteran’s Day on the 11th, all games are being played on the 10th. The Saguaro camp didn’t want a big distraction on their hunt to a second straight state title and again pushed the date back. Foster is expected to pick between Arizona State and Oregon.
*Chandler Hamilton DT Calvin Thomas has set up a visit to Fresno State (Dec. 9th). The Dawgs have not offered him yet but I expect they will. Thomas’ senior film is so much better than his junior year’s. He moves better and is making more plays. I expect several FBS schools to show serious interest. His current offers are from Air Force, Montana and North Dakota State.
*One of my favorite young players, Chans Cox from Blue Ridge, got a big offer this week from a top five program. Cox was verbally offered by Boise State. Cox is a special player but it goes to show that college programs will still recruit off the beaten path to find a prospect.
*JUCO Round-Up- Glendale Community College defensive tackle Cy Maughmer made his verbal commitment to Eastern Michigan. EMU’s head coach, Ron English, has Arizona ties as he coached at ASU for many years. Good to see him bring his valley ties back to get some players. Maughmer prepped at Apache Junction HS and had an offer from Air Force out of high school but didn’t want to go the service academy route. After tearing his ACL as a senior, he had few options and headed to GCC. He has played well for the Gauchos this year, making 40 tackles and 5 sacks as a nose guard and had other offers from Western Illinois, Northern Colorado and NAU before committing to EMU.
