The Arizona Diamondbacks were coming off one of their best away series this year against the Chicago Cubs. They continued their road trip in San Francisco and came away with a series loss.

Tough Starts Again
Patrick Corbin was roughed up by the Giants early on Sunday, giving up six runs (three earned runs) in a six-inning start where he struck out ten. In Corbin’s last nine innings, he’s given up 17 hits and ten earned runs.
Taijuan Walker was dominant in his first six innings against the Giants. He came out in the seventh with a 4-0 lead and gave up three hits, including a Hunter Pence two-run home run to make the game 4-3.
But Then There’s The Young Gun
Rookie Anthony Banda went toe-to-toe with Madison Bumgarner and out-dueled him in the D-Backs’ only win that series. He went six innings, gave up three hits and one earned run while striking out seven. It was his first MLB win.
Struggling in Winning Moments
Getting guys on base wasn’t an issue for the Diamondbacks this series, but getting them in was, specifically in Saturday’s extra innings loss. The team went 2/16 with runners in scoring position, and the Diamondbacks had the bases loaded in the ninth and a runner at third in the tenth and came away with no runs. The Giants, and AT&T Park were able to make the D-backs’ loud lineup into a whisper.
Giving Up Runs At D-Backs Ex-Pence
Hunter Pence went 5/11 with a home run a two RBIs against the Diamondbacks. He is hitting .385 – the best against any opponent this year – and slugging .583 against the Diamondbacks in 2017.
The Diamondbacks have fallen to the second wildcard spot and are five games above Milwaukee. The Diamondbacks sit at 63-48 and face off against the division-leading Dodgers on Tuesday. Zack Godley, Zack Greinke and Taijuan Walker are slated to toe the rubber for the Diamondbacks.
