Ohio State tackle an option for Cards, 13th pick

As is the case more often than not this time of year, the Arizona Cardinals front office has a decision to make over the next month leading up to the NFL drat which begins on April 29th.

The Cards, barring a trade, will select 13th overall when Roger Goodell starts the festivities at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

The two most talked about needs for Ken Whisenhunt’s team appear to be offensive line to help protect Kevin Kolb and/or John Skelton, as well as wide receiver as the Red Birds look for a compliment to All-Pro Larry Fitzgerald.

One name linked to the Cards in the first round is 6’7, 323-pound Mike Adams from Ohio State.

Adams, who declared for the draft after his junior year last fall, moves well for a man his size and appears ready to make the transition from the Big Ten to the NFL after participating in the combine last month and OSU’s pro day in Columbus last week.

“It’s been a pretty crazy process,” Adams told ‘Big Guy on Sports’ Wednesday. “Training in Phoenix at API (Athletes Performance Institute) was a great experience. I also got a chance to play in the Senior Bowl. Overall, it’s been going really well.”

Adams versatility is one thing pro scouts love. His athleticism will likely allow him to play either tackle spot, although he envisions himself staying at left tackle where he played his entire career. He said simply having the opportunity to compete at the highest level is something he’s looking forward to, regardless of where he’s drafted.

So how about Arizona?

“To come out to Phoenix, it’s an area I’m familiar with,” Adams said. “I definitely like out there. The weather is great, the people are awesome. That would be great.”

The Cardinals have targeted other players along with Adams. Offensive line/assistant head coach Russ Grimm is expected to be in attendance at Stanford’s pro day on Thursday to scout prospects Jonathan Martin and David DeCastro.

Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd who impressed scouts at the combine has also been mentioned as a possibility for the 13th pick.
