Oklahoma Prep Basketball Star Jakolby Long Visits Sun Devils

There is no better time than the summer for high school basketball players to showcase their talents and get their name out there to colleges.

Arizona Christian University’s gym was full of some of the best talent in the region at the Arizona Top 100 showcase on Sunday. While there were plenty of players from the Valley high school scene, a few out-of-state players were looking to make their mark, including shooting guard Jakolby Long from Mustang, OK.

The three-star recruit is in town to take an unofficial visit to Arizona State Monday. He spent Sunday showing what he can do against some of the state’s top talent.

“Oklahoma is a little bit better, in my opinion,” Long said with a smile.

The 6’4″ southpaw shooting guard has received offers from the likes of Kansas State, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma State, and Wichita State.

The Sun Devils could be next.

“(Coach Hurley) will show me around the campus and tell me what he wants me to do as a player and what position he wants me to play to help the team,” Long said.

Long said Arizona State’s fans and Coach Hurley’s ability get the most out of his players are some of the reasons he is interested in the Sun Devils as a potential landing spot.

Long impressed while at the showcase, specifically when he guarded some of the best players at the event. Defensively, he has lofty goals each time he steps on the floor.

“At least get five steals a game, and at least try to average ten rebounds a game. My points will come along with it when I’m in a rhythm.”

This summer, he is going take some visits and continue to work on, well, every aspect of his game.

“I’m working on everything because everything needs improvement in my game so I can get better as a player.”
