Former Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler didn’t workout at the NFL Scouting Combine, nor did he take part in the ASU Pro Day two weeks ago, as he was still trying to get to 100 percent, after suffering a foot sprain in the Las Vegas Bowl a few months back.
Osweiler held his own “Pro Day,” at the Verde Dickey Dome on Friday, which brought out lots of college and NFL eyes, among them, his former head coach Dennis Erickson, former Sun Devil QB Jake Plummer, current head coach Todd Graham and Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.
Osweiler didn’t look fazed at all by the gathering. Instead he seemed locked into what he had to do, which was show everyone what he’s made of, and that he’s an NFL caliber quarterback.
By our unofficial count, Osweiler completed 66 of 75 passes on the day.
He had total command of the field, and guided his receivers right where they needed to be to make the catch.
His short and intermediate game was very good, as he and his guys were in harmony.
The deep game is where it got a little dicey at times for Osweiler and crew.
Quite a few passes looked shaky, and he and his former teammate Aaron Pflugrad missed on each other on quite a few plays.
Osweiler seemed in good spirits afterwards and was pleased with what took place.
“I thought it was a good day,” Osweiler said. “The wide receivers did a tremendous job of running really good routes, and it was a lotta fun.”
His former offensive coordinator, and current UCLA offensive coordinator, Noel Mazzone, was instrumental in putting the workout session together, and worked with Osweiler on a game plan that best showed off his talents.
Mazzone had an interesting tidbit he shared afterwards: he said if Osweiler had decided to stay at Arizona State this season, he would be a “top 15, top 10 pick” in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Regardless of that, Mazzone is confident that Osweiler will do well in the NFL.
“There’s gonna be some NFL team that’s gonna reap the benefit of having this guy on their football team, I honestly believe that,” Mazzone said.
For Osweiler, now comes the visits and the wait for his name to be called at the draft in a few weeks. Osweiler said he will visit the Chiefs and Broncos next week, along with the Dolphins and Bills at a later date.
