The first of nine has been taken…
The Denver Broncos have decided to stock up at quarterback for the future, by selecting former Arizona State quarterback Brock Osweiler with the 57th pick in the second round.
For Osweiler, who better could you learn from at the next level than a sure fire Hall-of-Famer in Peyton Manning?
Osweiler and the Broncos had already seemed to be a lock and a natural fit for each other before the draft, and now that has come to fruition.
As you look at the Broncos roster, the only other quarterbacks there besides Manning is Caleb Hanie and rookie Adam Weber, two guys who don’t exactly strike fear in opposing defenses.
John Elway, Executive Vice President of Football Operations for the Broncos, tweeted this out shortly after the selection:
“Excited that Brock Osweiler is going to be a Bronco. Very talented & will have a great opportunity to learn from one of the best.”
In kind, Osweiler tweeted his happiness at being picked by Denver:
“I couldn’t be more excited to go to Denver and learn from Peyton Manning…I look at it as a tremendous opportunity.”
With 15 career starts at Arizona State, experience is clearly not Osweiler’s strong suit, but his missile of an arm and his athleticism are tremendous pluses for him.
For once in Manning’s career, he finally has a successor to his crown, when he decides to hang up his cleats.
