I Really like the moves that the Cardinals made tonight in the draft.
Trading out of twenty was really a “no brainer” if they felt that they could still land the player that they wanted at 27. Not only did they address a serious need at safety, they added a third round pick to the war chest. Rashad Johnson and Tony Jefferson aren’t going to get the job done in the rough and tumble NFC West. Deone(pronounced Day-own) Bucannon put up some pretty impressive numbers while playing on some mediocre teams at Washington State. How about 15 career interceptions? He was just one of four DBs in the nation with 100 tackles in each of the last two seasons. Granted, the Cougars defense resembled a sieve, but he still had to make plays.
The Cardinals see a little bit of Adrian Wilson in Bucannon. He brings versatility to a secondary that had to use Tyrann Mathieu at free safety last year. Mathieu is hurt and Patrick Peterson can’t cover everybody. I know that many Cardinals fans wanted them to take Johnny Manziel as the quarterback for the future. I didn’t want Manziel here.
Good pick and strategy on day one of the draft for the Cardinals.
