With the 13th pick, the Arizona Cardinals Select…

Arizona Sports News online

Should the Cardinals go secondary or wide receiver on Thursday? Play it for the present, they use the 13th pick and you’d like to think they would plug a hole for several years to come.
What if they take a quarterback instead? Patrick Mahomes, the Texas Tech quarterback, has a howitzer for an arm. He would be the quarterback in-wait, with no pressure to get on the field in 2017. Wear the ball cap, carry the clipboard, and have a year on scholarship watching Carson Palmer.
Problem is Palmer,Larry Fitzgerald and several other veterans are playing to win in 2017. Adding a top fifteen player to a position in immediate need would probably play much better with those who are closing in on the end of the career.
It’s the dangerous dance of the NFL Draft. The last time the Cardinals used a first round pick on a quarterback, Matt Leinart came to town. He was gone a few years later. A complete whiff by the organization. Can’t have that happen with a first round pick, yet every year QB’s are over-hyped, over -drafted, and like Leinart, gone before you know it.
It’s an interesting side to Thursdays first round. ESPN and the NFL Network are both going to have reporters at the Cardinal facility. Perhaps they will have more of a story to tell than just the Cardinals filling out a position of need for the coming season.
