Jayden Daniels was injured, penalty flags littered the field, passes were dropped, and mistakes were the order of the day. When it was all said and done, the Sun Devils had dropped their third straight game, falling to USC 31-26. “It was a game of dropped balls, missed penalties for us”, said head coach Herm Edwards. It was more than that.
-USC was ready to play, ASU wasn’t. The Trojans roared out to a 28-7 lead after the first quarter was complete.47 yards rushing
-The Sun Devils run game was non-existent(21 carries for 47 yards)
-3 turnovers by ASU
-9 penalties for 82 yards for Arizona State
-USC had 550 yards of total offense, the Sun Devils just 339
Backup quarterback Joey Yellen was a bright spot . The true freshman played well in his first start, throwing for 292 yards and four touchdowns. He showed poise and composure on the final drive of the game, which ended with a deflection interception for the Trojans. Jayden Daniels did not play, after being injured in the UCLA game last month. He could be back next week a Oregon State.
With the loss, the Sun Devils still aren’t bowl eligible. They need to win one of their final three games in order to head to a postseason bowl game. Next Saturday, they will travel to Oregon State.
