Signing day is over so I thought it would be fun to compare the 2012 class to the 2011 class.
This year, 46 student-athletes signed with Football Bowl Series (FBS) teams, these are the big schools like Arizona State, USC, etc. Last year, 43 signed.
This year, 16 players signed with Football Championship Series (FCS) teams, NAU, Weber State, North Dakota State are examples of FCS schools. Last year, 25 signed. A pretty dramatic decrease.
This year, 5 players signed with 1AA non-scholarship schools, these are schools such as San Diego, Yale, Harvard, etc. Last year, 10 signed. Again a pretty big drop off.
Now the year is not over. February 1st was just the first day that a student-athlete could sign a letter of intent. There will be a handful of players that receive late scholarship offers, but for the most part the 2012 class is done.
Looking forward, there are already 10 players from the 2013 class that hold BCS offers, well ahead of the pace from last year.
