ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the Arizona Diamondbacks have signed catcher Stephen Vogt to a one-year contract.

The left-handed hitting Vogt most recently played for the San Francisco Giants, where he appeared in 99 games and hit .260 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI. He also provides depth in the outfield and at 1st base.

In 2019, Vogt hit .289 with a home run and six RBI against Arizona, the most against an opponent last year.

There have also been reports that this should presumably end the Diamondbacks’ three-catcher system, a staple of the Mike Hazen & Torey Lovullo era. Catching duties are assumed to be handled by Carson Kelly, who had an OPS of .826 in his first year as the featured catcher in Arizona.
