Our Pros2Preps.com Recruiting Insider Jason Jewell reported earlier in the week that former Chaparral High School star Davonte Neal has decided to leave the Notre Dame Fighting Irish after one season.
A lot of fingers now pointing to Neal possibly transferring to the University of Arizona as Neal’s former high school coach Charlie Ragle is now the Wildcats Tight Ends coach. Everyone also remembers the signing day fiasco when Neal and his family failed to show up at their signing day event at his old elementary school. That day there were reports that Neal was really struggling in his decision between Notre Dame and Arizona.
Arizona head football coach Rich Rodriquez joined Brad Cesmat on ‘Big Guy on Sports’ Thursday and confirmed that they will be in contact with the wide receiver and there would be a scholarship available to add him to the 2013 class at the U of A.
“We are going to inquire about that and see what Devonte is looking for in the future,” Rodriguez told Cesmat. “We have a relationship with him along with a lot of other recruits in the past and now that he’s again a recruited athlete, all I can confirm is that we are going to talk with him.”
“We have at least one (scholarship available), we may have more than one depending on one or two guys who may not qualify,” Rodriguez added. “But we had one empty spot in regards to this last recruiting class.”
Neal was one of the most explosive players in the 2012 recruiting class and was immediately brought on as Notre Dame’s primary punt returner as a freshman.
The Wildcats football team will be scrimmaging up in Phoenix on Friday at 7pm from Phoenix College which will be free and open to the public.
