As Desert Edge linebacker Milton Rodgers heads into his third season at the varsity level, he’s focused on leading a defense that returns seven of its top ten tacklers.
While he approaches his senior season, he has goals set to impact the Scorpions now and for years to come.
“My goal is to leave a legacy here at Desert Edge with the class we have and 2020 and start something new at Desert Edge,” Rodgers said. “We call it ‘New Culture.'”

The Scorpions have embraced that new culture in their social media and on the field as the transition from 5A to 4A.
“We want to set a tone in this new league that we’re in, the 4A,” Rodgers said. “We want to let them know that Desert Edge is on the map and we are still here.”
Rodgers is coming off back-to-back seasons as the Scorpions’ leading tackler. Along with fellow senior defensive tackle Nassir Sims, Rodgers looking to be that senior go-to option as linebacker and running back.

“He’s kind of the tip of the spear for us,” Lucero said. “He’s going to be playing some running back, some linebacker for us, a guy we expect to be on the field a lot and this team will go as Milton goes.”
Rodgers credits Lucero for a lot in his progression but has said his coach has taught him his most valuable lesson: patience.
“He did a lot of things for me. He’s taught me how to be patient honestly throughout the whole recruiting and football and stuff, just how to be patient and trust.”
Rodgers has filled up the stat-sheet the past two seasons, but has had a slow recruitment so far.
“I tell him when the time’s right, a school’s going to find you,” Lucero said. “It only takes one to love you and you’ll find a great home and a place you can play football and get your education paid for.”
Rodgers feels another strong season can provide the tape for college coaches to offer him.
Lucero admits he has thrown a lot at him on the field, in the weight room and as a voice, but he’s confident his linebacker can thrive in his leadership role.
“It’s a heavy burden to bear but he’s got some big, strong shoulders so we’re looking forward to see what he does.”
