Monday morning, Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt announced that running back Ryan Williams needs surgery on his shoulder and is out for the season.
Williams left last Thursday’s game against the St. Louis Rams in the second half.
“We didn’t think after the game it was going to be the case, but in getting the tests done on it and talking with the doctor yesterday, it’s something that’s going to require surgery,” Whisenhunt said, “timetable for recovery is probably three months.”
The Cardinals other options at running back are William Powell and LaRod Stephens-Howling, as Beanie Wells is not expected back until November.
Last season Williams was out for the entire 2011 season with a knee injury.
