Saguaro’s Damian Sellers Discusses UCLA Commitment

Saguaro outside linebacker Damian Sellers has been one of the most sought-after pass rushers out West for multiple seasons.

In three years, the the 6’4″, 230-pound Sabercat tallied 166 total tackles, 72.5 tackles for loss and 23.5 sacks.

Sellers held offers Memphis, Oregon, ASU, USC, Washington, Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU, Michigan, Utah, Alabama, Penn State, Florida, Wisconsin, Auburn, Purdue, Arizona, Kansas, Texas and UCLA.

On Wednesday, he signed with the Bruins.

“I got a chance to go out there a couple times. I got a chance to meet with (head coach Chip Kelly) and (outside linebackers coach Jason Kaufusi), great guys and I think their program is headed in the right direction. The education out there is unbeatable as well.”

Sellers said he had a good feeling about UCLA after his offiicial visit to Westwood, his first and only official visit, and was had a pretty good idea he’d commit at that time.

“UCLA is getting a game-changing pass rusher who is one of the very best outside linebacker prospects in the country,” Saguaro football coach Jason Mohns said. “Big, long, athletic freak who is a very versatile defender with the ability to play in space or put his hand down. Damian is well-liked by his teammates and will be a great addition to the Bruins on and off the field.”

Sellers joins Salpointe Catholic offensive lineman Bruno Fina and Hamilton linebacker Jeremiah Trojan as Bruin commits from Arizona in this class. Fina and Sellers squared off multiple times in 4A, and while he hasn’t spoken to the offensive lineman about playing together – he was keeping his commitment pretty quiet – he looks forward to playing with him rather than against him.

“He’s probably one of the best offensive linemen I’ve gone against,” Sellers said. “He’s a big guy. He’s got good size and is strong. It will be nice to be on the same team for a change.”

The Bruins are also a finalist for Higley defensive end Jason Harris, who took an official visit to UCLA last weekend.
