It’s been quite a birthday for Saguaro wide receiver Matt Polk.
On the day he turned 18 years old, Polk announced his verbal commitment to Oklahoma State. Being a part of the Cowboy football program is a family affair for the Polks. Matt’s father, Raymond, played defensive back at Oklahoma State.

In addition to the Cowboys, the wide receiver holds offers from Florida, Arizona, Air Force, Purdue, Cal, Tennessee, Kansas, NAU, UCLA, Oregon State, Iowa State and ASU.
“(Oklahoma State is) getting a kid that should have been offered by Alabama and Clemson and those types of schools. (He’s) 6-foot-4, 210 pounds and can run and there’s a lot of big, long guys that can stride, but Matt’s short area quick,” Saguaro football coach Jason Mohns said.
“He’s got twitchiness, he’s physical. If you put on the film from this year, he’s mauling defensive backs. He’s got great ball skills. He’s got length and his leaping ability is off the charts. He’s going to develop into a guy that can play on Sundays.”
Polk caught 25 passes in seven games for 466 yards and three scores as a junior. This year, he is already outpacing his junior season with 19 catches for 446 yards and five touchdowns.
“He’s really turned it on this year,” Mohns said. “With the kind of team we have and the kind of talent we have, he’s not the only guy so the ball gets spread around a little more. He’s definitely been our feature guy. He leads our team in yards…he’s our big play guy. When we need a play, he’s our guy we go to.”
Polk pairs with Notre Dame Prep offensive lineman Cade Bennett as 2020 Oklahoma State commits from Arizona. He is also the sixth Saguaro 2020 class commitment, joining Jacobe Covington (Washington), Jaylan Jeffers (Oregon), Tyler Beverett (Bucknell), Will Shaffer (ASU) and Parker Lewis (USC) to make their verbal commitments.
He breaks down his commitment on this special edition of the Venezia’s Pizzeria Recruiting Roundup.
