Saguaro defensive lineman Quintin Somerville has long been considered one of Arizona’s, and the nation’s, top prospects in the 2021 class.
The Adidas All-American holds well over 20 offers from some of the premier programs in the nation, and on Saturday, he made his commitment to Michigan.

“It’s been a great process knowing there’s a lot of comfort (at Michigan),” Somerville said. “We’ve known for a long time I was going to be a Wolverine.”
His personal connection to the Michigan coaching staff played a huge role in the decision. Defensive line coach Shaun Nua first built a relationship with Somerville when he coached at Arizona State and wasted no time offering the Sabercat when he made the move to Ann Arbor. Somerville was offered on Jan. 17, 2019, the same day Nua was hired by the Wolverines.
Somerville had felt Michigan was the choice for about six months now, but wanted to wait until June 20, his mother’s birthday.
“She is my rock,” Somerville said. “Everything in life, I go to my mom. … Her presence in my life has been huge. Going through this whole process, my head has kind of gotten lost in some places throughout this whole thing, but she keeps it squared and helps me through everything in life.”
Along with the support of his mother, Somerville also credits his entire family for their help as he made his decision. His older brother, Jordan, is the current running backs coach at New Mexico and helped provide perspective throughout the process.

It wasn’t just the football accolades that attracted Somerville to Michigan. He wants to take advantage of the university’s prominent business school.
“That was the biggest thing going into this whole process, even before high school started, just holding myself to the highest academic standard,” Somerville said.
Somerville said his parents have held that high standard for his work in the classroom long before he stepped onto a football field.
“It was a blessing that I didn’t even know about,” Somerville said. “I just thought my parents were being strict, but they had a plan set out for me before I even knew it, so I thank them a lot for that.”
Somerville, along with many of his teammates on the Saguaro defensive line, return after an impressive 2019 season. In his career, the 2021 prospect logged 47.5 tackles for loss, 124 tackles and 12.5 sacks in 30 games and shares the line with San Diego State commit Darrion Dalton, Alani Ma’afu, who holds double-digit offers, and class of 2022 lineman Tristan Monday, who is already catching the eye of big-time programs.
Somerville talked about his commitment, the Sabercat community and his relationship with Shaun Nua on this commitment edition of the Venezia’s Pizzeria Recruiting Roundup.
