Sande Sez- Postcard From Under the Friday Night Lights

Arizona Sports News online

Greetings from week 3 of Arizona high school football!

What a game ALA Queen Creek at Mesquite was. The Wildcats took this one 60-42, but that score on paper doesn’t do the game any justice.  I finally was able to get eyes on Mesquite quarterback and Oregon commit Ty Thompson, and well, he is as good as advertised. However, not enough people are talking about Mesquite’s senior receiver Eric Lira. He is a playmaker.  On the other side of the ball for ALA Queen Creek, they have a lot of talent, and they are really well-coached. Junior quarterback Logan Hubler put up a great fight. This team really impressed and was able to stay neck and neck with the Wildcats all night long. The Patriots should be proud of their effort … this is just the beginning.

I did take a slight detour after the game at Mesquite… I found a newborn kitten under the bleachers and couldn’t just leave it… I rushed it to the ER Vet. Shout out to Mesquite’s security for helping me.

Let’s hop on over to the west part of town for a good old Peoria Rivalry.  Sunrise Mountain took down Liberty 37-33, and well, I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I have said since week one after seeing Sunrise Mountain play that they are an Open Caliber team. The Mustangs move to 3-0.

Back over to the east part of town where Casteel defeated the Queen Creek Bulldogs 12-7. The Colts held the Bulldogs to just one score all game, but for both of these teams, a defensive battle was fought. Casteel’s QB Dane Christensen finished the night 29-33 with 229 passing yards and two touchdowns. The Colts mean business. The Bulldogs will bounce back.

The highlight of the night is the Highland Hawks taking down Sandra Day O’Connor 37-13. The star of the night was Hawks running back Max Davis. Davis had  311 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Highland remains undefeated.

Well, saving a kittens life and doing my dream job wore me out tonight. Signing off. Until next time.
