Sande Sez- West Schools Love-Centennial to Desert Edge Day Blog

Arizona Sports News online

Thanks to Centennial and Desert Edge for letting me come out and get eyes on what they are creating this season. So let’s get to it! My first stop was at Centennial.

The Coyotes have a QB battle going on between 2021 Joshua Gasca and 2023 Austin Glimpse. Gasca has the maturity on his side, but Glimpse has the frame and seemed comfortable addressing the huddle before each play. While I am on offense, let’s get to the Oline. The average weight of the offensive line is 315 pounds.

UNLV commit Caiden Miles, OT, demonstrated why he is off to a Division I school. He showed nice athleticism to go along with his powerful frame. While 247Sports has 2021 TJ McRae as an O-lineman, I was able to see glimpses of him at defensive tackle. This powerful athlete looked natural at that position. The Coyotes have a pair of transfers from St. Louis, who also happen to be best friends and made back to back interceptions. The first to make an interception was ATH Marzion Crosby, and the second interception made by his BFF and ATH Kenyatta Anderson.

There is no secret as to why the Coyotes are always so successful. Coach Taylor and his coaches demand excellence in their team on and off the field. He instills in them a hard work ethic and a winning attitude. It will be interesting to see who wins the QB battle.

From Centennial, I made a quick drive down the 101 to the 10 to hit up Desert Edge and see what the Carter twins were up to with their new team. The Scorpions are lead by junior quarterback and newest Washington State commit, Adryan Lara. Lara displayed a strong arm and mobility. He will be a really fun one to watch in Pullman. A key weapon for Lara is 2021 Montana State commit Andrew Patterson. Patterson showed speed and good hands. The connection with Lara is evident on and off the field. Their Oline is boasted by 2022 ASU target Gavin Broscious. He’s got the frame that makes it clear as to why he’s getting Power 5 offers. And for defense, Steven Ortiz Jr, Minnesota commit, never disappoints when seeing him play. He had a nice back peddle, nice hips with a lot of agility.

The Carter twins run a tight ship, and the leadership was evident the minute I stepped onto the field. They bring energy, positivity, and accountability. One really cool thing is at the end every practice, the whole team drops to the ground because in life, you will get knocked down, but you have two choices: you can get up, or you can stay down.  Another thing that stood out to me was that both coaches participated in some disciplinary conditioning with a few of their athletes after practice was done.

Thanks again to Centennial and Desert Edge for letting me tag along and get to know your teams. Best of luck in the season.
