Sanders Happy He Played Weight-ing Game at Centennial

Arizona Sports News online

Bozton Sanders may have stopped eating but he sure hasn’t stopped talking.

“Bozton’s never quiet,” Centennial High School senior quarterback Isaac Steele said of teammate and longtime friend Bozton Sanders.

If you attend a Coyotes’ game this season you may have a little more trouble finding Sanders on the sidelines. The linebacker/tight end shed close to 25 pounds since the end of the last season. The formula was quite simple according to the outgoing Young.

“I eat a lot more fruit,” he told Sports360AZ.com Thursday night after the Coyotes snapped Saguaro’s 28-game win streak. “I go to Jamba Juice a lot. I love Jamba Juice…it’s fun.”

The 5’11”, 225-pounder has also stepped into more of a leadership role in 2015. He’s replacing Dedrick Young who is expected to see substantial playing time as a true freshman linebacker at the University of Nebraska for new head coach Mike Riley.

“I just looked up to him all the time,” Sanders said of his former teammate. “I looked at how he represented and led by example.”

Believe it or not, Sanders was ready to lead Centennial by example all the way back in eighth grade when he showed up to a Coyotes’ practice and asked if he could work out with the team.

“I said, ‘who are you and what grade are you in,'” head coach Richard Taylor explained of his conversation with the short, stocky eighth-grader. “[He] said, ‘I’m in eighth grade and I want to be a Coyote and I want to start practicing now.'”

It certainly was worth the wait…or shall we say weight…for everyone involved.
