Shane Doan’s Jersey Retirement Night

Arizona Sports News online

Hockey does it right

When I arrived at the Shane Doan jersey retirement, the elevator was filled with NHL dignitaries. Men in blazers, who have traveled from around the country, to make sure they were in place to honor “The Doaner”. The video tributes, the boos for NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, the tears that streamed down Doan’s face several times and the laughter from the crowd as the stories were spun.

The stories were awesome, the Coyotes put together a classy show.
Doan told stories that brought laughter and tears.

He spoke lovingly about his wife and four children, in a way that choked up most of the those in attendance. He spoke about his faith in God, “I’m here by him, for him, through him”
