Spencer Levin puts together monster second day at WM Open

After being forced to end his first round early on Thursday due to darkness, Spencer Levin came out on Friday in the zone. 

Levin finished what was left of his first round early Friday morning a stroke back from the lead at six under par. And then broke loose at the start of his second round.

“I’m just trying my best on every shot. It’s really no different than any other time I play,” explained Levin. “I hit it really well and played well around the green, made a lot of nice puts today.”

Levin birdied the first two holes, finished with six birdies total on the day and also one big eagle on 17. For a gread total shooting an eight under 68.

Levin was not so sure that he was have this kind of success early here in Phoenix based on how he was hitting the balls off the driving range on Thursday.

“I was hitting the ball all over the range, and I bogeyed my first hole of the tournament and told my caddie going to the next tee, this might be a nine-hole week here.”

The fast start has given Levin a lot of confidence, but he maintains that he still has a lot of work to do as the weekend approaches.

“It’s not over yet obviously,” Levin mentioned. “I feel a little bit better about my swing this week and hopefully over the next two days I can keep feeling better about it.”

Levin got off to a fast start last week at Torrey Pines as well and fell off on the final two days. Levin will look to change that in Phoenix and build off the momentum he gained Friday.

“I couldn’t ask for more, it was a great day.”
