Second Year For Greer

Quarterback Naz Greer looks stronger and more confident.

This is a very bad thing for opposing defenses.

Greer threw for 38 touchdowns with only nine interceptions as a sophomore. He has bulked up considerably and had no problem orchestrating the Marcos offense in drills throughout practice.

The Muir Reps The Better

I met Krysten Muir this past fall when she was the kicker on the Marcos junior varsity team. She was also playing volleyball and ended up playing soccer in the winter. Fast forward to the spring, and Muir is focusing solely on football. She hit field goal after field goal and was able to stretch her distance out considerably since the fall.

Running Into 2015

Marcos de Niza head coach Sean Morin said he hopes the Padres run early and often in 2015, and they are suited to do so. They return their three leading rushers in running backs Avery Sanders, Shaun Richards, and quarterback Naz Greer. Sanders and Richards are a thunder and lightning-type duo in the backfield, and Greer, who led the team in 2015 with six rushing touchdowns, said he ran track this spring to improve his speed.

Vocal Hitters

Jacob Hernandez and Andrew Rodriguez caused a lot of pain as leaders of the linebacker corps in 2014. Head coach Sean Morin called Rodriguez, a senior, the heart and soul of the defense early last year. With Rodriguez moving on, it is now Jacob Hernandez’s turn. Hernandez, who led the team with 132 tackles in 2014, said he is working on being a more vocal leader as he assumes a senior role. The defense also returns James Reynosa, who led the team with seven tackles for loss, is looking to wreak some havoc in the backfield yet again.

More to come on all of these storylines soon…
